My NEW review: DON'T BUY CRANK BROTHERS! Since owning these pedals a little longer I have broken (snapped on uphill mountain bike climbs) 3, yes 3 SPINDLES on Crank Brothers pedals. Both these Mallets and on a set of Candy's (broke twice). I've also dealt with CB customer service- they are just out to make a buck. I sent in my first pedals after snapping the spindle (I weigh 170 lbs am 6'1'' and only ride xc) after riding them for maybe 6 months. CB replaced the spindle and sent them back. In the meantime I was using my backup set of pedals (the Mallets) which also had maybe 6 months of use and snapped one of them. I sent in the Mallets, got back the other set (Candy's) and snapped another Candy spindle two weeks later. CB still has my Mallets and claims that my lack of rebuilding the pedals is to blame... they claim that you need to rebuild your pedals once a year... well my pedals were SNAPPED after 6 months! They offered to rebuild my Mallets and send them back for about $30 shipped... sorry, I'll go with Shimanos which LAST for $35 total. I asked about CB's new series of pedals and they say the 5 year warranty is only void if you rebuild them annually- so add $100 to each set for 5 years of service. Forget about using CB products- they don't last.
